Title: Applying project management methodologies to implementing digital health technology within the hospital sector


The hospital environment is unique, with varying and diverse stakeholders and constraints. Therefore, it is important to adopt project management methodologies to meet those unique challenges and opportunities. 

Part 1: 
Gain a better understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that health IT projects must address to be successful. 
Learn how to customize and adapt project management tools and methodologies to position health IT projects for success. 

Part 2: Digital Health Case Study 
The case study will provide a real life example showing how project management tools and methodologies were practically applied to support the successful implementation of a new cardiovascular system. 

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able: 
• To apply a multi-faceted approach to better leverage project management tools and methodology to ensure and support the successful implementation of digital health technology projects within your organization 
• To learn how to effectively engage hospital stakeholders to support the successful delivery of digital health projects 
• To learn more about digital health within the hospital environment  

Jennifer Quaglietta 
Jennifer Quaglietta is the Director of Patient Experience, Quality, and Patient- and Family- Centred Care at North York General Hospital and CHE Industry Affiliate, Centre for Healthcare Engineering, at the University of Toronto.  North York General Hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals. Jennifer has developed a quality improvement framework that builds capacity and incorporates high reliability and effective change management. This framework has led significant advances in the delivery of high quality and safe care. She provides advice and direction to and is a trusted advisor for the senior leadership team. Most recently, Jennifer has led the development at North York General Hospital’s Patient- and Family-Centred Care Strategy – a unique approach to delivering patient-centred care at the bedside. 
Prior to her role at North York General Hospital, Jennifer served as the Strategy Lead within Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care providing leadership to implement the Excellent Care for All Act, 2010, and supported the advancement of the provincial quality agenda, including pillars of health system funding reform. 
Holding various leadership roles over the past 15 years, Jennifer has worked across the healthcare sector, including pharma, broader public sector, agency, academia and consulting. Throughout this time, Jennifer has delivered transformative strategies that have improved patient outcomes and the quality of care across the province.  Jennifer’s strengths include policy and strategy, partnership development, governance, and quality improvement. 
A Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders, Jennifer is a graduate of the Master of Business Administration program from the Rotman School of Management and the University of Toronto’s Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering program. She holds the Project Management Professional designation and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. 
Jennifer’s work has been recognized across the healthcare sector as she continues to be an invited speaker at various conferences and universities, and is the recipient of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute’s 2017 Patient Safety Champion Award, Project Management Institute’s Kerzner Award and the Ontario Public Service Award for Project Manager of the Year.

Alistair Forsyth 
Alistair has been a project manager in the information services department at North York General Hospital for just over a year. In that time, he has successfully delivered numerous clinical and non-clinical IT projects and co-led the creation of an enterprise data governance program. Alistair takes a collaborative approach to project management that focuses on the principle of end-user co-design to ensure successful adoption of healthcare technology. 
Prior to joining NYGH, Alistair was a manager for eHealth Ontario’s identity, access and privacy program. Alistair led the development of a harmonized provincial policy framework for electronic health records (EHRs) that safeguarded patient privacy by setting standards for health care providers to share personal health information. 

Alistair’s subject matter expertise has been recognized with appointments to the Women’s College Hospital research ethics board and regular speaking engagements with University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation.  Alistair also provides privacy consulting services across the health sector. 

Alistair holds a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Toronto and a BA (Hons) in History and Economics from the University of Western Ontario. Alistair is a Certified Privacy Professional (CIPP-C) and completed legal training while living and working in the United Kingdom
