2017-2018 PMI Toronto Board of Directors


Marc Blanchette, PMP

Marc currently serves as your PMI Toronto Chapter President. He is a results-oriented Project Management Professional with a sales and marketing background and more than 15 years in managing international, high-priority software & hardware projects and programs. Prior to being Chapter President, he was Secretary-treasurer for PMI Toronto and has also served as President for the PMI Canada’s Technology Triangle (PMI-CTT) for 5 years prior to. He is also a member of the Region 3 Leader Summit Organizing Committee and serves on the Board of Advisors for Project World. Marc was recently asked by PMI to co-present at the upcoming Leadership Institute Meeting in Chicago.

Marc is a persuasive communicator and is fluent in both English and French as well as a resourceful and innovative leader who is skilled in engaging, developing and motivating team members, mentoring volunteers and providing an inclusive environment for all stakeholders. This is key in leading in a volunteer environment.

Marc’s intent to renew his mandate with the PMI Toronto Board includes continuing to work closely with the board to address the pain point(s) and using his leadership skills to help focus our effort towards maintaining our enviable position of being one of the 5 largest chapters in the world. Marc played a key role in rebranding the Chapter from Southern Ontario to Toronto which included a new set of bylaws keeping in mind the needs of all stakeholders – members, sponsors, volunteers, board of directors and any interested parties.

Simi Ahluwalia, PMP
Secretary / Treasurer

With over 10 years of experience in implementing best practices towards project, program and portfolio management in a variety of industries, Simi has successfully delivered business transformation projects with complexities spanning across multiple business streams and information systems. He currently extends his expertise in the financial services industry leading teams to deliver on strategic business initiatives.

Simi has been volunteering with the PMI Toronto for the past 6 years. After his first assignment on the chapter's 35th anniversary in 2010, he soon joined and was an original member of the Marketing and Communication Committee. After working on a number of key initiatives for the chapter, Simi became VP of Marketing in 2012 where he developed a team focusing on marketing campaigns and maintaining the chapter's brand through marketing materials and communication vehicles...leading to his call to the Board of Directors in 2014. In his current role as Director of Public Relations he has accountability towards all chapter communication and brand management and oversees activity on Social Media, Weekly Scope, Newsletter and Website. Over the years Simi has made significant contributions and has had a great influence towards how the chapter communicates today.

In setting an objective for the chapter, Simi will look to the entire Board of Directors to establish a closer relationship with its members…providing a unique experience that is personalized to each individual. Over the last 40 years the Board has learned a lot from its members and should leverage those learnings to improve the members’ experience. His vision is to enable a tightly knit community where we all are able to leverage one another towards their individual development and improve the Project Management community as a whole.

Mitchell R. Fong, PMP

Mitchell Fong, PMP, P.Eng., is a Management Consultant with 10+ years in Business, Strategy & Technology with degrees in Software Engineering and Political Science. He has worked with a number of the world’s most reputable companies including Apple, Boeing, Comcast, Johnson & Johnson, JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, NASDAQ and Verizon. Mitchell has worked in online gaming, healthcare, aviation, digital media, telecommunications, network performance, cyber security and financial institutions/ banking. 

He helped launch the Marketing and Construction Communities, engaged Young Professionals, introduced Networking Events as an integral component to the Chapter, brought PMI Founder to Toronto and continues to be mainstay at Chapter events.

Mitchell is the Chapter Liaison for PMI Educational Foundation and collaborated with the Wideman Education Foundation (WEF) to host a Project Management Competition. Mitchell is committed to improving the project management profession globally and locally with a focus the Chapter's members and volunteers. 

Outside of PMI, Mitchell works as a Senior Project Management Consultant at BMO. He served as a Non-Profit Board Member. Venue Operations Manager for the Pan Am Games and Program Manager for the Invictus Games.

Tony Josevski, PMP

Tony is a senior consultant with close to 20 years of extensive experience in project management and designing enterprise infrastructure solutions. Throughout his career, Tony has worked with different sectors; including financial, retail, public, manufacturing, and media. While starting his career with IT, he has in recent years shifted his emphasis to troubled project recovery, business strategy and cloud computing.

He is a passionate practitioner who thrives on continuous learning opportunities and sharing knowledge amongst colleagues. Tony believes that every opportunity is a chance to make a difference at work and in life in general.

Tony believes strongly in helping others and giving back to the community, and has been active in many volunteer organizations including: Ryerson University Business Alumni Association, Pickering Hockey Association, School Community Councils and PMI.

He joined the Durham Highlands Chapter of PMI in 2006; shortly after earning his PMP certification. During his six years on the board, Tony organized the monthly meetings, Project Management workshops and professional development days.

For the last three years, Tony has volunteered at PMI SOC in the Corporate Outreach portfolio, and in 2015 began serving in the role of VP of Professional Development.

Tony’s vision and objectives for the chapter includes:

  • Continuous improvement and expansion of Professional Development offerings
  • Raising the profile and value of project management within the business community
  • Increased networking opportunities for our members

Jesus Lagunas, PMP

Jesus Lagunas is an Industrial Engineer and Project Manager with 15+ years of experience in the Manufacturing Industry. Passionate about manufacturing processes, Jesus currently works as an Assistant Plant Manager for Tonolli Canada, part of the Terrapure group of companies; a Battery Recycler/Lead Smelter facility, where he is in charge of managing the operations of the entire facility.

Jesus has been a volunteer for the Toronto Chapter for 6 years holding leadership positions in the Communications, Branches & Communities and Social Responsibility portfolios. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors, leading the Social Responsibility portfolio; interacting mainly with students and recent graduates from different educational institutions in the GTA, as well as non-profit organizations promoting Project Management, creating awareness and building relationships between these communities and the Toronto Chapter.

If re-elected as a board member, Jesus will put the interests of the Toronto chapter members as a priority, working on improving the value offered to them. Jesus believes advocacy is crucial for the growth of the chapter and he will look exhaustively for new synergies with other groups of interest to enhance PMI Toronto members experience and to grow the interest of Project Management as a profession in different disciplines and fields.

Jesus holds a BSc. in Industrial Engineering, is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a certified Lean Six.Sigma Green Belt. He also holds a Project Management certificate from Centennial College, an International Business Management certificate from Fanshawe College and Project Management training from U of T Mississauga.

Winnie Liem, PMP

Winnie Liem is a strategic and visionary leader who will promote excellence as the Director of Branches and Communities.

Winnie’s has 15+ years of experience in Project, Program and Portfolio Management in Government and Technology industries, providing consultation and leadership in adopting project management best practices and in leading organizational transformations.

Winnie has been a PMI volunteer since 2012 beginning as the Community Manager for the Government Community of Practice growing its membership from 2,000 to 16,000+ members globally. In 2014, Winnie launched Toronto’s Government Community and built a vibrant Government community within the Toronto of like-minded project professionals.

Winnie brings to the chapter her proven leadership skills and strategic perspectives to fulfill its vision to be a focal point in the project management practice to its members.

Parveen Nath, PMP

Parveen Nath is a Managing Director and a Senior Management Consultant specializing in Portfolio, Program and Project Management. He has volunteered his time with various organizations and presented at different venues on topics ranging from Implementation of Portfolio Management, setting up a PMO, and to Risk Management. He excels in utilizing industries best practices frameworks, and combined with his personal experiences to identify, develop, design and implement solutions which meet client requirements.

As an active PMI volunteer since 2006, Parveen has held progressive roles within Toronto (SOC), including the Chair of PMO Branch from 2010. As a Director of Member Services Portfolio, Parveen’s objective is – “Fulfill the needs of PMI SOC members” - focusing on implementing solutions for improved member satisfaction and growth.

Mr. Nath has published various white papers on Portfolio and Program Management implementation and optimization. He also has been involved in various case studies and joint ventures with other senior industry leaders.

Bola Otaraki, PMP

Bola Otaraki, a Snr. Project/Program Manager and Management Consultant and Chemical Engineer has over 14 years’ experience working in the Banking/Financial services, Public sector and Telecommunications sectors, focussing on Infrastructure and Application development projects both locally and internationally.

She is not only passionate about state-of-the-art project management success, but also about impacting people around her positively by helping to transform organisations and communities around the world by successfully leading and directing project excellence! Her drive, passion, focus and energy are contagious!

Bola is a firm believer in giving back positively to society with her skills, time and energy. She is able to touch lives positively; constantly leaving a lasting legacy.

Volunteering is a way of life for Bola. 
Since coming to Canada in 2006 and before then, she consistently volunteers her time, energy and expertise in different communities, areas of interest and her profession and has volunteered at senior levels (including the Board level) with The Toronto Board of Trade, Agincourt Community Services Agency, TDSB, Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, YCC 93 and her local church.

Bola consistently uses project management expertise to contribute to organisational strategic objectives. By aligning with an organisation’s strategic objectives and applying a clear understanding of the strategic direction, she has been able to lead and motivate, share, articulate and drive staff to action with a clear buy-in of the strategic focus and direction.

Sladjana (Jane) Sekulic, PMP

Sladjana-Jane Sekulic has more than 20 years of management and leadership experience in program and project management, market research, marketing, operations, product development and management, business strategy and management consulting. Her projects extend across Business and Technology primarily in the Financial industry. Sladjana’s experience blends well with Project management consulting roles where not only technical Project Management know-how, but also stakeholder management, corporate cultural sensitivity, cross-functional leadership, change management and business understanding play a significant role.

Sladjana has been volunteering with PMI SOC as a VP, Corporate Partnership since June 2014. Her vision for PMI SOC includes improving Chapter exposure in the Business communities based on increased awareness of the strategic advantage that well rounded project managers bring to organizations through applying best practices within the realities and culture of organizations they serve. Sladjana’s goal is to connect Business, PMI SOC’s members, and PMO’s Leaders through partnerships, networks, events, and forums. To increase opportunities for members, and respond to growing business needs for well-rounded project managers, she wants to see project management expertise well wrapped up with business, strategic, change management, coaching, networking, and leadership knowledge and skills for entire PMI SOC membership.

Sladjana has Economics degree from the University of Belgrade and MBA from the University of Ottawa. She is a PMP, and a Certified Master Coach. Sladjana has also acquired Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation from the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists, and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation from the CMC-Canada.

Steve Wong, PMP

Steve is an active volunteer and supporter for Project Management at PMI, PMI Toronto Chapter (SOC). Steve was appointed by PMI Toronto's board in 2014 as the Vice President Finance, and subsequently elected as Director of Finance for Fiscal 2015 and Fiscal 2016. He has been a volunteer in the Program Advisory Committee in George Brown College, School of Accounting and Finance since 2012. 

Steve has been active with PMI - a Content Team volunteer from 2010 to 2012 in the development of the Fifth Edition PMBOK Guide, the Vice President Marketing in 2010 of Bruce Branch in PMI South Western Ontario Chapter and the Vice President Finance in 2011 of the Bruce Branch. 

Steve is a Project Management Consultant, specializing in risk analysis of mega projects, and implementation of infrastructure projects and enterprise wide applications. Steve has been working in projects for the past 30+ years. The list of organizations where Steve has been successfully managing projects includes Amec, Arthur Andersen (Accenture), Bruce Power, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Cisco Canada, the Government of Canada, the Government of China, the Government of Hong Kong, IBM, JP Morgan Chase, McDonald’s, Ontario Power Generation, Royal Bank of Canada, Rogers Communication, and the United Nations.
