On Monday, 9^th December 2019 – PMI Toronto held its last chapter meeting for the year marking the end of a momentous and transformative year. This milestone was marked by a glimpse into what lies ahead for PMI and PMI Toronto. The topic for the session was an introduction to Disciplined Agile by Scott Ambler, Vice President and Chief scientist of Disciplined Agile (DA) at PMI. The session was held at the KPMG offices in downtown Toronto and was attended by 100 attendees from various industries. So let’s delve into what was discussed:

What is Disciplined Agile?

Disciplined Agile is an industry-leading process decision toolkit that describes how agile software development, DevOps, IT, and business teams work in your enterprise. In short, it helps companies chose the way of working (WoW) that it should undertake.

How is Disciplined Agile associated with Project Management Institute?

PMI acquired Disciplined Agile in the summer of August 2019.  Disciplined Agile offerings will exist in parallel with PMI’s existing offerings such as PMP (Project Management Professional), ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)

Why chose Disciplined Agile?

Agile is a major buzzword nowadays and there is a lot of fragmentation in how it is delivered. According to Scott, there are now hundreds of practices, which overlap, but these practices do not address the gaps. Because of this, Agile teams receive conflicting advice for their project delivery. 

DA recognizes every industry and organization needs to evaluate for itself the best methodology to be used and does not have a one size fits all approach. DA provides a more cohesive approach to agile solution delivery that normal agile processes have gaps in.As more organizations adopt and implement agile, a tailored approach would be very useful and their certifications will prove even more valuable.
