PMI-SOC Chapter Meetings = Excellent networking opportunities!
Event Type: PMI-SOC Chapter Dinner Meeting
Event Topic: Upcoming Trends in Project Management (…be in the know)
Synopsis:
The profession of Project Management is largely a creation of the ‘project management associations’ over the last 30 to 40 years. During this period, they have developed a generally consistent view of the processes involved in modern project management, encoded these views into ‘Bodies of Knowledge’ (BoKs), describe competent behaviours and are now certifying knowledgeable and/or competent Project Managers.
When we talk about the future of project management, it’s easy to focus on technological advances churning out more robust and powerful features and tools. But no matter how “cool” these tools are, it’s still the skills and competencies of project leaders that make or unmake projects. At the end of it, it’s often the driver’s racing skills that win races, not the car.
So what does the future hold? We are fast entering the era of stakeholder centric project management in the full glare of corporate governance. The boundaries of our technology are merging into a range of other disciplines including communications, ethics, general management and corporate governance and arguably everything (or nothing) could be a project.
Let us spend some time, during the course of this presentation, looking at some of the trends which a PM should be conscious of as these appear to be on the development radar for the future of project management. Question is and always will be: How do you stay relevant when everything around you is changing?
Learning Objectives:
Ever since Project Management has become part of the vocabulary, have we been trying to predict and establish what would be growth and development patterns. Every project manager should be able to direct their career based on some of what the future holds.
Individuals working in project management at every level will benefit from this by:
-Staying on top of key trends in the profession
-Recognizing how these trends could impact their area of work
-Be able to predict the evolution of project management as it relates to certain industries
-Relating past practices with future ones to clearly understand the evolution of the profession as a whole
