PMI-SOC Chapter Meetings = Excellent networking opportunities!

Event Type: PMI-SOC Chapter Meeting

Event Topic: Why Did They Have to Choose Me? The Emotional and Social Consequences of Project Work

Synopsis:
Many of us like to think that we are in charge of our own careers – but project professionals can’t entirely make that claim. After all, no sponsor will hand the keys to a multimillion dollar project over to someone they don’t trust at least by reputation. This means that, to a certain extent, other people have at least as much influence over our career trajectory as we do (and possibly a lot more)! This presentation explores the uncertainty associated with project careers and looks to the science of emotional intelligence to find ways to mitigate associated risks. Emphasis is placed on developing healthy relationships, planning for career-based change and keeping your integrity under questionable demands.

You will learn:

  • Three important risks associated with project-centric (“liminal”) careers
  • Strategies to manage relationships, sanity and health under these conditions
  • How to leverage core dimensions of emotional intelligence
