Event Type: Government Community

Event Topic: Agile and Lean: Are We Innovators, Imitators or Idiots

Synopsis:
As the market for Agile and Lean resources, services and tools have expanded rapidly, there surely has been as well a large influx of imitators as well as idiots joining the movement!

Many of these imitators have added improvements while some have tarnished the agile/lean brand. And then there are the idiots who barely know how to spell agile, often giving agile delivery a bad name in the process.

For large organizations like governmment, who have more at stake, what should their focus be on? As many executives only care about results. Although idealism and innovation are necessary for a vibrant movement, it needs to be balanced with a good dose of practicality.

For example, some government organizations have corporate-wide phase-gate processes for project governance, however are they able to work out an agile/lean way for software development and process improvement, that still fit within the overall governance process?

In this session, our experts in Agile and Lean will:
- Get back to Agile/Lean values and root
- Introduce innovations and concepts in Lean and Agile (eg. DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Kanban, etc.)
- Explore ways to unify teams rather than splinter
- Explore ways to continue to Innovate (while combating stateness)
- Balance idealism and practicality

Our experts will also highlight practical examples and case studies where Agile and Lean are working today in Government.

Kevin Aguanno - Panelist

Kevin Aguanno is a globally-renowned keynote speaker, trainer, and award-winning university professor Kevin Aguanno is perhaps best known as one of the early pioneers in the agile movement. In fact, he coined the term "Agile Project Management" in the early 2000s and created the Agile PM methodology in 2003. Today, he brings his deep expertise in both traditional and agile methodologies to bear - along with his extensive experience helping organizations evolve project governance structures - to help us understand the four different strategies for structuring any project or program so that we can maximize the delivery of business value while reducing both technical risk and the business risks caused by budget and schedule overruns. He has too many degrees, certifications, and awards to list - but suffice to say, he is a highly-respected project manager whom many of you already know personally or have read some of his many books.
