Strategic Tools and Techniques for IT Project Managers: (1) A case study in applying Agile & Waterfall to a Complex IT Healthcare Project (2) Introducing Project for the Web as a strategic new Microsoft tool to manage projects collaboratively

Synopsis:

Multiple Speakers Evening Event:

Presentation #1: Digital ID & Healthcare Solutions Deployed in Waterfall and Agile Manners

Brad and Ihtisham will dive into the specifics of one of their current projects that support IACaaS (Identity, Access & Consent as a Service). This project combines strict (and voluminous) requirements in security, privacy and Trust Frameworks with evolving standards and approaches in the identity management space.

Come hear from the experts as they share their experience on how the project is being delivered with both legacy waterfall and agile methodologies. Their presentation will also cover aspects on managing stakeholders expectations, risk mitigation, project tools, and the planning and support that goes into managing such a major complex project in a disruptive environment. Once the project is successfully deployed, learn how it will become a key part of how all Canadians will receive better access to their personal health information.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Project Manager practitioners to see a case study in how these project methodologies compare, contrast, and can be integrated to deliver a complex project.

Learning Objectives:

• Working in an Agile manner in a highly regulated industry

• Integrating Agile project methodologies in to Waterfall based programs

• Working in complex multistakeholder environments with uncertain requirements

Presentation #2: The Future of Microsoft Project – Introducing Project for the web

On October 29th Microsoft formally announced Project for the web, their new Project Reimagined. This is a cloud-based Project solution that leverages the power of the Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft 365 to provide users with a new modern user experience.

Project for the web is designed to engage a broader audience in managing projects to better aid the “Accidental PM” and to support a wider range of activities and work styles and methodologies.

Paul will provide a live demo of this new Project for the web product as well as Microsoft’s Power Apps tools for extending the solution to support waterfall, agile and hybrid implementation methodologies.

During the demo Paul will also cover lessons learned from implementing cloud-based Project solutions for the past 7 years in clients across Canada and how these lessons apply to Microsoft’s new vision and direction.

Learning Objectives:

This session will help Project Managers understand where Microsoft is going with their industry leading tools, how to engage a broader audience who are tasked with managing smaller projects and how to consolidate this information into a cohesive view to make decisions, understand resource constraints and manage budgets.
