AI in the Project World: The Promise and the Perils
Synopsis:
AI is rapidly reshaping the project world: accelerating documentation, analysis, communications, and decision support, while amplifying risks related to privacy, quality, trust, and accountability. This practical, thought-provoking session explores how you can keep the human in command, using AI tools and agents without surrendering judgment or effective project leadership.
You'll learn a simple four-question framework to help you:
- Weigh when AI is appropriate
- Select approved tools and engage the right governance stakeholders
- Protect confidential, personal, proprietary, and project-sensitive information when using AI tools and agents
- Interrogate and validate AI-generated output
We'll also look at some practical approaches to managing AI-related risks and examine how AI is changing both the PM role and organizational change management.
Learning Outcomes:
- Assess whether AI is appropriate for specific project management tasks.
- Describe the essential components of AI governance and identify when governance stakeholders should be engaged.
- Recognize when AI use requires greater human oversight, governance, and control.

She led the “AI for All” program at UnitedHealth Group, bringing AI/ML learning opportunities, governance, and community to data scientists, engineers, and analysts across all business units and encouraging leaders to consider AI solutions for their top business challenges. She is based in Connecticut, USA, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern New England Chapter of PMI.
