Event Type: PMO Branch Event

Topic: PMO - Help! I Think I’m in Trouble: The Art & Science of Project Audits

Overview:
Project Audits fall outside the traditional role of the Project Management Office yet projects contribute significantly to the financial performance of an organization. There is plenty of research indicating the high incidence of project failure and the billions of dollars such failure costs corporations and investors each year. The benefit of project audits is that they can very quickly identify the root causes of problems on projects, making it possible to get projects back on track and avoid project failure.

Project Management has become embedded in complex processes and methodologies. This can make it difficult to quickly identify the root causes of problems on projects. PMOs must understand how to identify the core reasons for project challenges. This will help identify the opportunities to improve the management of these projects and increase their performance. Developing a consistent process of auditing projects can have a tremendously positive impact on an organization’s productivity and profitability.

There is an art to project audits that differs from generally accepted PMO functions. During this event, you will learn how organizations have used Project Auditing to improve their ROI and customer satisfaction. We’ll review the process of auditing projects and how an interim Project Health Check can identify potential problems before they become a crisis. You will leave energized and equipped with the tools, techniques and knowledge necessary to go back and start conducting Project Audits.

Key Learning Objectives:
• Learn how project auditing will increase project success.
• Determine what you can do to help get projects out of crisis management and firefighting.
• Identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in all projects.
• Understand how to complete a project health check or audit from beginning to end.
