GTIS BRANCH - STATUS QUO OR THE REAL STATUS OF INFORMATION SECURITY IN DEV OPS?

Synopsis:

This workshop will introduce the audience to how Dev Ops works, followed by concepts of information risk and cybersecurity and ultimately, they will have the opportunity to link the concepts together through a few practical use cases.

The in-class and online audience will be asked to participate in a discussion about the real state of information security in the rapid deployment approach taken by many organization, also known as Dev Ops.

Our very experienced instructors, who also work in the industry, will make sure that Project Managers in the audience understand how the role of a project manager is changing, and the need to expand it  into the world of cybersecurity and information protection requirements.

Learning Objectives: 

• Understanding (or recap) of what Dev Ops is 
• Learn Risk Management concepts in the context of information security 
• Become aware of changes in the PM role and new demands & skills for the PM 
• PMs will learn to identify and spot missed information security and protection requirements during Dev Ops implementations 

Biography:

Amalia Barthel is a passionate Privacy and Information Risk, Governance and Management professional who has made it her mission to educate businesses about the importance of information privacy and security for their corporate reputation. As an independent consultant, Amalia brings the teachings and discipline of project management in every assignment or speaking engagement. Amalia is a lecturer and course content contributor at University of Toronto, where she currently teaches (alongside her co-speakers and colleagues Carlos Chalico and Raluca Blidaru) the Strategic IT Risk Management and Cybersecurity course. Amalia is an executive board member for the KnowledgeFlow Foundation, a unique and 100% Canadian not-for-profit organization supporting children, youth, their parents and schoolboards in their fight against bullying and cyberbullying. Amalia also retains the role of Advisor of the Board of the PMI Toronto Chapter, and is currently the National Program Lead for the PMP for Canadian Veterans program, partnering with the Region 3 PMI Mentor and Canada Company. 

Carlos Chalico is a specialist in Information Security, IT Risk/Governance and Privacy. He is with Nymity as the Director of Strategic Alliances and Customer Success. Before this, Carlos was the Managing Partner of the IT Risk and Assurance practice at Ernst & Young in Mexico, being responsible for delivering privacy, information security, IT risk, IT Governance and IT audit services for a number of organizations in Mexico and Latin America. 
Carlos holds different designations such as: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and Lead Auditor for ISO27001, Carlos was also designated a Privacy by Design ambassador in 2011. Carlos is constantly invited to speak at different conferences and is one of the guest authors of the book called “Personal Data Protection in Mexico” published by Tirant lo Blanch. He is a member of IAPP, (ISC)2 and ISACA, and serves as the Membership Director for the Toronto chapter on the latter. Carlos is also an instructor for the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies and a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross at its Technology Advisory Committee. Carlos earned his Bachelor’s degree with honours from the Professional Education Center in Mexico City, Mexico. 

Raluca Blidaru is a seasoned Information Security Management specialist.  She is passionate about what she does, feeling that her work matches her professional aspirations, practicing skills she trained and certified for, across multiple domains: Information Security, of course, but also Privacy, and not at least, Project Management. With a teaching background, Raluca is involved in mentoring and training activities, at work or outside of her workplace environment.  To name a few current or recent engagements, Raluca is a guest lecturer at University of Toronto, for the Strategic IT Risk Management and Cybersecurity course, she is also teaching information security and cybersecurity courses with SANS Institute and mentoring students from Ryerson University for their 4th year Capstone Project.
