GTIS Branch - Things You Were Never Taught About Being an IT Project Manager!

Business Acumen

Synopsis:

As Program/Project Managers, formal training in schools, training institutions and bootcamps is geared towards obtaining your industry certification or in methodologies.

Then you go into the real world of working as an IT PM …

This virtual presentation will reflect on 10 hard lessons learned on the job as an IT PM (different sized organizations in different countries and cultures):
1. Begin with the End in Mind
2. Your Attitude will determine your Altitude
3. If you fail to Prepare, then prepare to Fail
4. Battles are won before the fighting begins
5. Stay calm and carry on, but do escalate to your BFF (sponsor)
6. David vs. Goliath? Remember who won
7. Ordinary people who do extraordinary things do it with other people
8. Try not to bite off more than you can chew … but you will
9. Pressure is a privilege
10. Stories connect people and will captivate your Stakeholder audience

Learning Objectives:

These are real world lessons learned and will help Program/Project managers be successful in their roles in business or IT projects as we are all smart when we learn from our own mistakes, but we’re wise when we learn from other people’s mistakes.

Sharing of war stories associated with each lesson will draw comparisons and connections to audience’s own experiences.

A collaborative sharing session can ensue to ensure the virtual meeting will be collaborative.
